Origins and adventure

Character story

Aelar Blackthorn was born in the coastal districts of Willsforth beneath a strangely dimmed night sky. The stars did not vanish, but seemed veiled, as though something enormous had passed between the heavens and Verivar. When Aelar opened his eyes, a faint silvery radiance lingered within them.

As he grew, Aelar developed a quiet, observant nature and an otherworldly presence that never fully disappeared. His unusual talents eventually drew the attention of Lucian the Dunamancer, a reclusive scholar who studied time, gravity, causality, and fate.

Under Lucian’s tutelage, Aelar became an accomplished scribe and arcane student. He recorded unstable formulae, transcribed impossible geometries, and witnessed magic capable of bending the rules of reality itself.

But magic came at a cost.

Whenever Aelar channeled arcane power, it felt as though his veins turned to glass. Magic did not flow naturally through him; it resisted, burned, and tore at his body.

Alongside that pain came visions.

Aelar saw cities burning beneath fractured skies. He saw gods warring across the heavens. He saw the world torn apart and badly stitched back together, and at the center of it all he saw a fragile balance between light and darkness.

When Aelar finally told Lucian what he had seen, his mentor did not dismiss him.

Soon afterward, Aelar was sent to serve the Hellward Sentinels, a secretive order operating in places where reality thins and fiends slip into the world. He entered their ranks as an Initiate and an emerging prophet, his visions matching fragments of warnings the Sentinels had collected for years.

Those warnings pointed toward an approaching war among the gods and growing activity in the lower planes.

Aelar’s first mission brought him back to Willsforth, where a dangerous entity had escaped containment. The creature was no ordinary fiend, but something capable of stealing identities, corrupting trust, and hiding behind familiar faces.

He was sent to meet Darren Voss and his cousin, Meros Vael, each of whom had their own reasons to confront the growing darkness.

Now Aelar walks a narrow path between arcane truth and the visions he cannot escape. He does not yet know why he was chosen to witness what may be the end of the world.

Worse, he does not know whether he is meant to stop it—or help ensure it happens.
